Monument Village, run by the faith-based charity Methodist Family Services, is a permanent housing program that serves 30 families with a history of substance abuse and/or mental health disorders. The network of emergency shelters and transitional housing in Philadelphia makes referrals.
Made up of two, three, and four bedroom townhouses, Monument Village is located on the spacious and green Methodist Family Services campus in West Philadelphia. All of the houses are newly built and feature central air-conditioning, carpeting, and storage.
Additionally, Methodist provides many services to residents to help them overcome obstacles to securing permanent housing. On-site services include case management, family therapy, day care, after school programs, computer literacy classes, GED classes, summer camps, and parental education. There is also a community center staffed 24 hours a day.
The Monument program has three main goals: obtain and remain in permanent housing, increase skills and income, and achieve greater self-determination.
