Eliza Shirley House

One of the Salvation Army’s homeless shelters, the Eliza Shirley House is a faith-based shelter that assists single women, families, and people with mental health issues. Eliza Shirley has a capacity of 125 people and takes referrals from the Office of Supportive Housing (OSH) and people off the street.

Staff at the Shirley House can perform preliminary mental health checks, urine tests, and crisis intervention; and provide referrals to appropriate health care providers and drug and alcohol abuse programs. All residents must go through the OSH, but the Shirley House is open 24-hours and will take in people off the street if the OSH is closed.

On-site programs include parenting classes, bingo, bible study, tutoring, literacy help, movies, art therapy, and classes for teenagers. These activities help to foster a feeling of togetherness between residents. Additional help is given to residents to help them acclimate to a community setting both in the shelter and the surrounding area.
