Run by the faith-based Methodist Family Services, Bridge House Transitional Program provides services for 32 homeless single women. It is located near Fairmount Park, and the Office of Supportive Housing makes referrals.
Case managers and social workers meet with residents one-on-one to develop a plan so residents can achieve stability. Residents set manageable goals for themselves to build up responsibility and self-confidence. Life skills classes are available including cooking and nutrition, finances, employment, health, parenting, spirituality, housekeeping, conflict resolution, and substance abuse. Additional services are available off-site for mental health services, substance abuse counseling, career help, education, and vocational training.
The program focuses on overcoming obstacles such as a lack of certain skills, or confronting problems, like a lack of self esteem. There are also activities for residents on the Methodist Family Services campus. Residents can participate in sports, cultural, fitness, and spiritual events. Employment possibilities are also available for successful residents.
Bridge House refers residents to organizations that provide subsidized permanent housing and also encourages residents to seek market-driven housing. Case managers help residents set up savings accounts and develop good saving habits so that they can get permanent housing and keep it.
