1260 HDC Hopin III Shelter Plus Care

Part of the 1260 Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit corporation, the Hopin III Shelter Plus Care facilities provide 20 units of permanent, independent housing for homeless people recovering from chronic substance abuse. Referrals come from the Coordinating Office of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Programs, drug and alcohol rehab programs, and transitional housing shelters.

All of the housing units in Hopin III are one-bedroom units and are scattered throughout Philadelphia. Housing is inspected every year to make sure it is up to code. Residents contribute 30% of their income to rent, although this can be reduced if a resident’s income increases above certain levels.

When residents enter Hopin III an initial service plan is drawn up to address residents’ particular needs, and reviewed every quarter. 1260 will ensure that residents are drug or alcohol-free and that they seek appropriate treatment if necessary. Outside sources provide other services, which include volunteer outreach, case management, substance abuse treatment, HIV/AIDS medical diagnostic services, mental health supportive services, transportation, meals and clothing. If additional, or different, services are needed 1260 can help arrange them.
