The Hopin II Shelter Plus Care facilities are part of the 1260 Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit corporation. These facilities provide 60 Units of permanent, independent housing for homeless people who are diagnosed with a severe mental illness, living with HIV/AIDS, or recovering from substance abuse. Organizations that deal with drug and alcohol, mental health and homeless recovery issues refer potential housing candidates, which are reviewed by the Office of Supportive Housing, the AIDS Activities Coordinating Office, and the Department of Behavioral Health.
Hopin II serves both individual adults and families, and provides everything from one-bedroom efficiencies to four-bedroom housing units throughout Philadelphia. Hopin II is a Sponsor-based Rental Assistance program, so residents live in facilities owned or leased by 1260 HDC. Housing is inspected every year to make sure it is up to code. Residents contribute 30% of their income to rent, although this can be reduced if a resident’s income increases above certain levels.
When residents enter Hopin II an initial service plan is drawn up to address residents’ particular problems. This plan is reviewed every quarter. Outside sources provide services, which include volunteer outreach, case management, substance abuse treatment, HIV/AIDS medical diagnostic services, mental health supportive services, transportation, meals, and clothing. If additional, or different, services are needed 1260 can help arrange them.
