The Korean Community Development Services Center (KCDSC), a nonprofit in Northeast Philadelphia, provides housing retention services to 60 families to prevent homelessness. Many of these families are residents of North Philadelphia and the Office of Supportive Housing refers others. KCDSC offers grants of $1,500 to help families with rent or mortgage payments and utility bills. Such grants are only a temporary service, though, and KCDSC offers services to help families make a long-term plan for secure housing.
Every two weeks KCDSC offers workshops and job fairs that focus on resumes, interviewing skills, job searching, and social services available to help with employment. In addition to employment help KCDSC offers help on how to negotiate a fair mortgage and avoid predatory lenders, who hide large interest rate increases in contracts.
